Ice mountain climbing

Climbing Alpamayo
General description
For many mountaineers, Alpamayo is considered the most beautiful snowcapped mountain in the world. They are marvelled by its almost perfect pyramidal form and its impressive dusk. The 5947m high Alpamayo is the most often climbed mountain in the Cordillera Blanca. The total program of climbing takes seven days (including one day of security measures). As the routes are highly difficult to climb (also the normal route), not all expeditions succeed in reaching the summit. The normal route, called Ferrari, has a 350 meters long ice channel. This brings about the usage of technical ice axes. Furthermore, this route has inclinations of 60 to 70 degrees. Together with Huascaran (highest mountain in Peru), Alpamayo is one of the most preferred peaks for climbing expeditions in the Cordillera Blanca.
